HR
Our HR team deal with the ‘people’ side of M&S – finding the right people to join, then making sure they’re happy and doing well once they’re here. With our 15-month HR scheme, you’ll learn all about this area of our business – in both our stores and Head Office.
What will I be doing?
You’ll spend the first three to four months of the scheme in one of our stores, learning all about how M&S people are managed. For the rest of the 15-month scheme, you’ll be in our Head Office, working with two of our HR teams: People Policy, and Learning and Development.
With People Policy, you’ll give expert advice to managers across M&S on HR policies and how to manage their team. With Learning and Development, you’ll help our teams across the country plan their training, and come up with new training materials to suit their needs.
Where will I be based?
The scheme is split between one of our stores and our Head Office in London.
What training will I get?
You’ll do lots of your learning just by working closely with our HR professionals. But you’ll also have training workshops on all areas of HR, including manpower planning, recruitment, training and development, HR systems, processes and compliance and employee relations.
Will I get a professional qualification?
Not as such. But our scheme will give you an understanding of HR which is similar to the standards set out by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
What are you looking for?
Being able to communicate clearly is the most important thing, whether that’s in writing or verbally. And as you’ll be working with people of all ages and backgrounds, you need to be a real people person.
We’re also after graduates who can come up with new ideas to help us stay ahead of our competitors, and then work with a close-knit team to help make those ideas a reality.
What happens at the end of the scheme?
At the end of your 15 months, you’ll be given the chance to specialise in either People Policy, or Learning and Development. And after that, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to try out different areas of HR.
